of the month. Come to our spacious daycare and have your puppy socialize
with other puppies and their owners in a safe, clean, climate controlled
environment.
For dogs who show aggression to other dogs
Happy Tails To You Dog Training and Baymont Dog Training are
joining forces to present our clients with a new group class for
dogs who are aggressive with other dogs. This group class will only
be available to owner/dog teams who have taken private lessons with
one or the other of us. At this point, the classes are designed to
augment, not replace, the private lessons.
For puppies less than 18 weeks old
This class is for puppies less than eighteen (18) weeks old and
focuses on peer socialization. Puppies will be encouraged to
socialize in a safe and controlled environment, which will help mold
them into becoming friendly, well-adjusted adult dogs. We stress the
importance of sound puppy care; including but not limited to proper
nutrition, health, and grooming habits. Other topics to be addressed
are housetraining, puppy biting, chewing, and jumping. Handling
exercises as well as basic obedience exercises will also be
introduced during this class so as to lay the foundation for future
training.
For puppies between 18 weeks and 8 months old
This is a basic obedience class for puppies between eighteen (18) weeks and eight (8) months of age who have not gone through Puppy Kindergarten. In class you will be positively motivating your dog to learn on cue the specific behaviors of sit, stand, down, off, come, stay, and walking politely on leash. Handling exercises as well as peer socialization will also take place during class time.
For dogs 8 months and older
This course is the same as Premier Puppy for dogs over eight (8)
months of age.
This intermediate class is for dogs who have graduated either the
Puppy Kindergarten, Premier Puppy, or Premier Adult Class. We raise
the level of difficulty of the behaviors taught in the previous classes
by increasing the duration, distraction level, and distance. New exercises
introduced include heeling, go to your mat, stand for exam, and greeting
people. Special emphasis will be made on recalls. This class is also
geared to work on any problems the dogs may be having (i.e. pulling
on the leash, not responding to commands, etc.).
This class is for the owner who wants a well behaved dog who can go anywhere in public, and also prepares your dog to become a Canine Good Citizen! Prerequisites are passing and completing the Graduate Class. This class emphasizes the ten (10) specific tests a dog must complete successfully to receive a Canine Good Citizen Certificate through the American Kennel Club.
The Canine Good Citizen Test
Upon successful completion of the Advanced Class, your dog will be both
qualified and eligible for the Canine Good Citizen Test. Demonstrating
confidence and control, the dog must complete the following ten (10)
steps:
| Test #1 | Accepting a Friendly Stranger |
| Test #2 | Sitting Politely for Petting |
| Test #3 | Appearance and Grooming |
| Test #4 | Out for a Walk (Walking on a Loose Leash) |
| Test #5 | Walking Through a Crowd |
| Test #6 | Sit and Down on Command/ Staying in Place |
| Test #7 | Coming When Called |
| Test #8 | Reaction to Another Dog |
| Test #9 | Reaction to Distractions |
| Test #10 | Supervised Separation |
Passing these ten (10) tests will earn your dog the AKC’s Canine
Good Citizen Certificate. This can ensure that your dog will be a respected
member of the community. Because your dog will be trained and conditioned
to act mannerly in the home, in public places, and in the presence of
other dogs, this will indeed be a plus when dealing with your vet, landlord,
or insurance company!
